Local Climate Change Roadmap
The Roadmap in Portugal

Several conferences of the ‘Local Government Climate Roadmap’ are taking place in various cities in Europe and around the world until June 2009.

Almada is pleased to welcome on 28-29 May 2009, the International Conference ‘Local Climate Change Roadmap: A Time for Mobilization, Planning and Action’, co-organized by ICLEI (with mandate of the UNFCCC), the City Council of Almada, the Local Energy Management Agency of Almada (AGENEAL), the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, New University of Lisbon (FCT-UNL) and the Portuguese National Energy Agency (ADENE).

The Portuguese event, which is part of the preparation of the COP15 in Copenhagen 2009 and has the support of several institutions, will highlight the importance of local interventions for climate change in the dimensions of mitigation and adaptation and be a tool for collecting contributions for the ‘Local Government Climate Roadmap’.
In this context, the event will convene national and international experts that will address topics related to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation strategies and existing financial mechanisms to support local actions.

The event will close with the symbolic hand over of a document compiling the Portuguese contributions for the ‘Local Government Climate Roadmap’ to the Deputy Secretary General of ICLEI, Mr. Gino Van Begin, and to a representative of the Portuguese Ministry of Environment, Territory and Regional Development who will follow the negotiations of the Post-Kyoto agreement.
