Maryke van Staden

Maryke van Staden obtained a BA degree (Political Science) and a BA Honores degree (International Politics) from the University of Pretoria in
1998 and 1991 respectively.
Currently she coordinates the Climate & Air Team of the European Secretariat of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, addressing climate protection and air quality through international, European and national projects and activities.
Combining project work with the coordination of ICLEI’s European Cities for Climate Protection TM (CCP) Campaign (www.iclei-europe.org/ccp), she addresses climate change mitigation and adaptation at community level, and works with 170 cities, towns, counties and provinces in 19 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Newly Independent States.
Prior to her work at ICLEI, Maryke led the Projects Unit of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES), a scientific organisation that aims to bring solar energy and other renewables closer to implementation.
Her previous expertise in management, research and analysis working for the South African government on national security and policy proving a valuable asset for work in climate protection and sustainable energy implementation. << back
